Share a #SparkofHope

Let freedom reign. The sun never set on so glorious a human achievement. - Nelson Mandela

On the 24 thSeptember 2018, at the high level Nelson Mandela Peace Summit, Graça Machel will make a keynote address to world leaders at which she will present 100 Ideas for a Freer, Fairer World grounded in the work of 100 Sparks of Hope brought together by the #WalkTogether campaign.

To maximise the impact of the Sparks of Hope, we want as many people as possible to engage with this brilliant platform showing how the Sustainable Development Goals can be achieved. We need your help to reach as many people as possible with The Elders’ request to show the world – and world leaders – that the answers exist in global grassroots organizations.

Here’s how you can help:

1.  Inspire others to share their voice with world leaders! Encourage people to create a video telling the world which Spark of Hope inspires them and why. Simple instructions can be found on our website here: and we have a Take Action Explainer video to share (below). Those that post video messages will appear in the final film screened at the UN.

Take Action Explainer Video - English

Take Action Explainer Video - Spanish

2. Help us grow the Mandela Peace Mosaic! Ask your followers to share which Spark of Hope inspires them (and feel free to do the same!). Everyone who takes part will have their profile pic included in the Mandela Peace Mosaic, which The Elders will present to the United Nations. All Sparks of Hope can be accessed via our website here:

*The public participation deadline for both calls-to-action above is 13 SeptemberThe Elders Call-To-Action Video

Approx 80% of South Africans lack health insurance today. Universal access to NHI is affordable, achievable and fuels economic development. #WalkTogether for the right to #HealthForAll South Africans.

Over 80% of Kenyans lack financial protection from healthcare costs. Free Primary Healthcare for all can unite the nation, ensuring healthy, productive people, ready for the future. #WalkTogether to promote #HealthForAll in Kenya.

In Tanzania, most people have to pay user fees to access essential health services. Increasing public financing to eliminate user fees and improve services for everyone can halt poverty and improve lives. #WalkTogether for #HealthForAll in Tanzania.

The number of Americans without healthcare insurance rose by 3.2 million between 2016 and 2017, the biggest jump in nearly a decade. #WalkTogether for #HealthForAll that leaves nobody behind.

Thanks to political leadership, Indonesia has the world’s largest single-payer healthcare system with over 180m registered users. Now it’s time to invest another 1% of GDP to cover those without health insurance. #WalkTogether for #HealthForAll
